HOW TO TIE A WRAP DRESS

How do you really succeed in tying your wrap dress? It is a bit of an art to get a proper knot that looks nice. Here you will get all the tips you need to tie your dress like a real master!

Wrap dress is suitable for both everyday life and parties

The wrap dress is a much-loved garment that is suitable for both everyday and parties. Not only does it tend to suit all occasions, but it suits almost all body shapes as well. There are many models, both body-hugging dresses that really highlight your shapes, and airy dresses with a lot of volume in the fabric.

As you can adjust the tie on the dress, you can vary how you wear it and how you want it to sit. This is one of the reasons why a wrap dress is a wonderful garment!

How to tie a wrap dress?

You can tie your wrap dress in different ways, depending on which knot you think looks best and what suits the dress best. A good tip is to start by putting on the wrap dress like a coat, adjusting it so that it fits snugly over the shoulders before starting the knot itself.

Furthermore, you just have to choose which node you want to use, and then get started! See our step-by-step guide with both pictures and video on four nice knots below.

Wear the dress like a jacket

First of all - put on the dress properly!

  1. Imagine that you are going to put on a jacket or coat.
  2. Adjust the dress so that it fits well over the shoulders.

Tie your wrap dress - here's how!

Here we have collected four different tying methods in one video. We also have a step-by-step guide with pictures, if you prefer.

Step-by-step in pictures

You start by finding the small hole on the side of the dress and thread the ribbon from the opposite side through it. The hole can sometimes blend in a bit with the fabric and be a little hard to see, but it usually shows up quite quickly. Once you've found the hole and threaded the ribbon through, you can start tying the knot!

Knotting A – Knot in front

  1. Hold one ribbon in each hand

  1. Bring your hands behind your back and cross the straps

  1. Then take your hands back rather than your stomach

  1. Decide for yourself whether you think it looks prettiest with the knot in the middle of the belly or slightly to the side.

  1. Ready!

Knotting B - Knot at the back

  1. Hold one ribbon in each hand

  1. Take the ribbons and bring them to the back of the back and make a knot. You can also choose to pass the ribbons once around the waist and then make the knot, this way you get ribbons both at the front and back.

  1. Ready!

Knotting C – Knot on the side

  1. Hold one ribbon in each hand

  1. Take the ribbon that you took through the small hole on the side of the dress, behind the back and up to where the other ribbon attaches.

  1. Make a knot

  1. Ready!

Tie D – Hidden knot

  1. Hold one ribbon in each hand

  1. Take the tape that is on the opposite side of the hole, pass the tape behind the back and into the hole from the outside.

  1. Then take the other band behind the back. Lift the dress slightly in the front and tie a discreet knot under the dress.

  1. Ready!

Add details

  1. If you want, you can be creative and use accessories that add nice details to your outfit. Here we have used a normal button and string.

  1. Ready!

Adjust to taste

Now that you have chosen your tying method, all you have to do is adjust the details. Make sure the neckline fits well and adjust the front piece as you want it. You can also gently pull the fabric above or below the knot to get a nice fall in the dress.

Accessories

Sometimes it can be good with accessories for the dress. If the dress is made of a thin fabric, it may be a good idea to wear a petticoat. Feel free to choose a petticoat that is as similar to the color of the dress as possible, this way you don't have to worry about the petticoat showing through the wrap dress.

It may also be a good idea to test both garments together before you go out on the town, then you are absolutely sure that they work well together!
